Steps to Set up Text Messages
Modifying existing Text Message configurations
Mobile phone carriers are phasing out the ability to send text messages through email. This has resulted in text messages taking longer to be received, or sometimes not received at all. To address this, Scytec has implemented new text messaging capability with DataXchange that should result in more reliable text messaging. Existing configurations will need to be modified to send texts using the new method.
Note: For users already receiving text messages via Email to Text, skip to step 3. Existing phone numbers in Email Addresses have been copied automatically to the respective user’s phone number field.
- Go to the Manage tab and then select Users → Users.
- For each user receiving text messages:
- Modify the user.
- Add a 10 digit number in the Phone field. Only numbers that can receive text messages should be used. Extensions are not supported.
- If you do not know the user’s phone number and they are already receiving text messages from DataXchange, the phone number is likely in their Company Email or External Email field.
- Click Enter to save.
- Go to the DataXchange tab. Select Messaging → Assignments.
- For each message template being sent as a text message:
- Modify the existing Assignment.
- Change the Message Type to SMS Text.
- Assign the appropriate user’s phone numbers.
- Click Enter to save.
- From the same tab, go to the Expressions → Create Expressions form.
- For each expression sending text messages:
- Modify or Copy the expression.
- Modify the expression if it is only being used to send texts.
- Copy the expression if it is also sending emails in addition to texts.
- For the Target select SMS Text.
- Select the desired Message Assignment from the drop down.
- Click Enter to save.
- Modify or Copy the expression.
