Overview

The Manage → DX Service page is used to manage basic DataXchange Service information. The DataXchange services listen to the devices on the shop floor and transmit the collected data to the database. Only one DataXchange service is required per account, however additional services can be utilized to balance the load across multiple computers.

When a new DataXchange Service is installed and connects to the server for the first time, it will be added to this list automatically. The Host Name or the IP Address of the computer where the service is installed is saved along with the TCP Host Port that the user interface and the service will use communicate with each other. The user interface and the service communicate via the http protocol. The default port number is 80. The DX Service Identifier field helps the system differentiate between DX Services in case two of them have the same Host Name. If a service is moved to another PC or the Computer Name changes, the Host Name will need to be updated here.

The Test Connection button will briefly connect to the selected DataXchange Service to check if there is a valid connection. There are also flag icons on the User tab and on the DataXchange tab on the ribbon bar. These flag icons will be green if all monitored services are connected, otherwise the flag will be red. On the DataXchange tab, if you Connect to a DataXchange service, the flag color will indicate the connection status for only the currently connected service.
