Creating New Users with Appropriate Access

Overview

Within DataXchange, new users can be created with access to specific portions of the software. Depending on that user’s role, their permissions will need to be set appropriately. Default Groups have been added which can be used to set permissions without giving too much access.

Users tasked with configuring the DataXchange application and data collection will likely need broad permissions to make system-wide configuration changes, but typical users will only need access to Reports, Charts, and RTV to view data, or operators will need permission to enter data into the ODI.

Creating a New User

To create a new user, log into the DataXchange Windows Application. Go to the Manage tab and select Users → Users. Click the Add button to create a new user. A User Name (used to log into the software), First Name, and Last Name are required.

The Group Membership lists the available User Groups. Think of User Groups in this case as permission sets. Multiple User Groups can be selected, and all permissions in each selected group will apply to the User.

Operators: Generally access to the ODI will be the most important thing. This is assigned with the User ODI user group.

Supervisors: They will most likely need access to Reporting, assigned via the User Reports, Charts, and Dashboards group.

Managers: Likely will need access to most management functions of the software. Manage Users and Shifts, Manage Equipment and Licensing, Manage Equipment Status, Manage Part Numbers and Work Orders, etc.

Maintenance: These personnel will probably need access to User ODI and User Reports, Charts, and Dashboards to allow them to review data and set machine statuses.

Engineers and IT: These personnel may require access to Manage Data Collection Functionality, Manage ODI, or in some cases Administrator access.
